Choosing the right type of cabinet for your new home or kitchen remodel may seem like a daunting challenge. You may think, are there really that many types of cabinets to choose from? Or you may know what you like but not know the name for the style.

Luckily, we are here to help! To help narrow it down, there are six main types of cabinet styles that we think you need to know.

1. Shaker Style Cabinets

This is the ultimate classic kitchen cabinet that will really never go out of style. Each Shaker-style door has five segments: vertical pieces on the sides called stiles, horizontal pieces on the top and bottom called rails, and a recessed panel in the middle. A huge pro to going with the shaker style is that it is timeless, appeals to a multitude of buyers, and you can usually find it at a reasonable price point.

2. Glass-Front Cabinets

Typically, you won’t want to fill your kitchen with all glass-front cabinets. But they are nice to use in a few uppers to display your pretty glassware. The con? Of course you need to keep things tidy if you want to go this route.

3. Beadboard Cabinets

Beadboard is sometime referred to as tongue and groove. This is a very detailed and textured look, with vertical slats fitted closely next to one another. As with the glass-front cabinets, these are nice to use sparingly as an accent in the design.

4. Flat Front Cabinets

Flat front doors, also called slab doors, are solid with no panels or other framing. This is a very simple and minimalist look that pairs well in modern or contemporary kitchen designs.

5. Plywood Cabinets

Many cabinets, both front and interior, are constructed of plywood. Many designers are beginning to appreciate the rawness of this look and simply sanding the material down and putting it up without paint or any other touch ups.

6. Natural (Unfinished) Wood Cabinets

This is the least expensive route you can go, and some say it is also the least functional. However, it can be a beautiful rustic accent in the right design.
