Making Marble Modern

Marble has been a luxury item in spaces for centuries. Whether selecting Calacatta, Carrara, Levadia, or Arabescato, the use of this beautiful stone in kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms is certainly nothing new. But what we are seeing that’s new, are the more bold, loud styles of marble that are being used on large spaces & covering a long body of area. Colorful cracked marble with unique veining seems to be a trend over magazines, mood boards & at the big shows throughout the year.

The development of marble in the mainstream is coming in many forms & every scale; coffee tables, luxurious bathtubs, chain link decor and seating (to name a few!)

A current favorite for mine is everything & all marble in a master bathroom. I especially love this in Whitney Ports bathroom designed by Marie Flanigan. The drama that the Calcatta Paonazzo marble brings with the deep purple/grey veining is to die for.

Another look that I can’t get enough of is the waterfall marble island with a full slab marble backsplash. I especially love this space by Elizabeth Roberts Architecture where she brings in major rose tones for a bold look.

If you are really looking to make a statement, black may be the way to go. I love how handsome this black marble bathroom is! Deep white veins on a black body is certainly a statement, but when done well the space feels modern & classic at the same time. The symmetry of the sinks & continuous marble that seamlessly stretches from the floor up half the wall is elegant and rich. RMGB Architecture have mastered dimension by using the black creating depth yet keeping the dimension by layering the block sinks on top of the wall. Just magical.
