The She-Shed Escape

Written by: Rebekah Bowen

Men have the “Man Cave” but what do women get? The “She Shed”! I’ve personally always wanted one as a little oasis, a place to be creative and relax by myself. This is a way for us women to have our own space that we can hide away to, hang out with girlfriends, be creative, and really whatever your heart desires. No men allowed!

First you want to find your space. Typically, it’s somewhere outside your house; could be an old unused shed, could be an old shelter, or even an old greenhouse.

Next you want to figure out what your use of the space will be. If you’re into gardening, you can make a garden she shed. A little art studio, a tea house, all wood and rustic look. There are so many options and a good way to make it your own.

Now to designing it! (My favorite part) For mine I would put it in a greenhouse so that I could have multiple uses for it. Things included in my she shed would be a garden to grow some veggies, a little art corner, and a tea area with a comfy cute little sofa. For the garden I would start with a raised garden bed, maybe something wooden or rustic looking. Get a cute area rug to add a pop of color and some funky art. To make it cozier I would get some throw blankets and accent pillows for the sofa. Of course, you need lighting and why not a beautiful chandelier and some fun table lamps! For the art area I would get an easel with a stool and on the wall put some shelves or a shelving unit to hold all the art supplies. Add little tea cart next to the couch for your tea area. Lastly, string some lights hanging from the ceiling to light up at night and watch the stars.

You’re ready to enjoy your new She Shed!
