Wabi-Sabi Design

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese term that essentially means finding beauty in imperfection. If you look up the definition, you will find many different interpretations. One of my favorite interpretations is the Buddhist perspective - the belief that both life and art are beautiful not because they are perfect and eternal, but because they are imperfect and fleeting.

The spiritual philosophy has long been transcended into design methodology, and recently, there has been a resurgence in the popularity of this beautifully understated aesthetic. And personally, it speaks to my soul in the most beautiful way.

Wabi-sabi design emphasizes nature, simplicity, and authenticity. It incorporates natural textiles and textures, neutral tones, and greenery (yes please!)

You can go full on wabi-sabi in your approach, or you can place notes of the wabi-sabi throughout a modern design.

Check out some of my personal favorite wabi-sabi inspired pieces below.
