Fall Picnic Splendor

WOW, the time has already come for enjoying the splendor of fall outside. Can you believe it? 2020 has been a year of unusual circumstances, so we shouldn’t be surprised that this theme has continued. But boy - does anyone else feel like this year is slipping through our fingers faster than it ever has before?

We’re not complaining, though! Luckily, for us Georgians, this early arrival of Fall is a very nice surprise. Contrary to the usual Georgia weather in October, it actually feels like October. Step outside and you will feel the dry air getting cooler, smell the sweet aroma of fall flowers, and hear the bonfires crackling.

So, it only makes sense that we focus this weeks article on enjoying this wonderful bliss and embracing the great outdoors!

One of the best ways to do so is to plan a day hike followed by a picnic. Some of our favorite local Atlanta hikes are the following (if we could include more, we would, but that would take up too much of this page):

  1. Sope Creek Trail

  2. The Bamboo Forest at East Palisades Trail

  3. Allatoona Falls

  4. Kennesaw Mountain

All of these trails are only a 30-45 minute drive from Atlanta, and are wonderful places to view the changing foliage while enjoying a cheese board with a glass of wine. We went to Sope Creek for our fall picnic adventure.

Now, of course you need to bring a few supplies to fully enjoy the experience.

Our go to items for a stellar picnic include:

  1. A blanket, like this cute plaid one from Target:

Target, $30

2. Goblets, because drinking wine is better with a cute glass:

Williams Sonoma, $59.95

3. Plates, like these picnic friendly ones from Target:

Target, $0.79

Don’t forget to BYOB and BYOF (bring your own food). A good hike needs to be rewarded with a full stomach.

Now friends, go find your inner Bear Grylls and embrace the beautiful fall that is upon us!
